Dear Ms. Allen,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
With respect to the Eyeopener, it is an independent student newspaper and corporation, separate from TMU. The university does not oversee or direct its editorial decisions. Any concerns regarding those decisions should be directed to the Eyeopener.
As the university has made clear to the Friends of Egerton Ryerson through multiple communications, TMU is currently doing further work on Standing Strong Task Force (SSTF) Recommendation 15, regarding the creation of garden(s) for the long-term growth of traditional Indigenous medicines, and Recommendation 16, regarding a ceremony for community members’ healing and closure at the site of the former Egerton Ryerson statue. As part of the ongoing work related to these recommendations, the university is also exploring how and when to remove the existing plaque.
Thank you again for writing.
Sincerely,
Mohamed Lachemi
